Day 29 (Queenstown) - Monday 17th October 2016

Dawn at Lake Wakatipu

What a way to start the morning! What a gorgeous view, right? 😁 This is the view from my hotel room.

Those who know me well are wondering if they're seeing things: 'Surely Annette didn't get up at the crack of dawn to take that picture? She must've paid someone to do it for her.'

It wasn't intentional. I left the curtains open so I could wake to the view of the scenery in the morning, but woke up several times in the night (so typical when it's a free day here in Queenstown today, and we don't have an activity until 5pm). Since it was only about an hour or so till dawn, I figured I might just as well stay awake and get some great shots. After that, I had my breakfast, and then went straight back to bed for a couple of hours to catch up on my sleep!

Afterwards, I headed into town and  checked out the souvenir shops (sorry, Mum and Dad, still no scenic, laminated place mats for you  - they just don't seem to sell them anymore!). And, of course, a visit to the town would be incomplete without a trip to the local library (quest tally: two out of eight).

This evening, we took a trip on the TSS Earnslaw* and cruised across Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak Station. We enjoyed a gourmet barbecue dinner at the Colonel's Homestead before having a singalong around the piano on our journey back.

* I still have my sea legs. Or should that be lake legs?!
